Who are they?

The UK Business Angels Association is the national trade association representing angel and early stage investment in the UK. Each year private investors look to invest in high growth businesses and account for between £800 million and £1 billion of early stage investment in the UK.

British Private Equity & Venture Capital Association

Who are they?

The British Private Equity & Venture Capital Association (BVCA) is the industry body and public policy supporter for the private equity and venture capital industry in the UK.

The aim of the BVCA is to aid understanding and transparency around the activities of its membership, promoting industry to entrepreneurs and investors as well as to Government, the EU, trade unions, international media and the general public.

Appropriate for:

Businesses aiming to grow rapidly to a significant size. As a rule of thumb, unless a business can offer the prospect of significant turnover growth within five years, it is unlikely to be of interest to a private equity firm.

BVCA membership comprises more than 500 influential firms, including general partners with an accumulated total of more than £200 billion funds under management, limited partners, professional advisers, service providers and international associations.

Start Up loans Company

Who are they?

The Start Up Loans Company is a government funded initiative that provides startup support in the form of a repayable loan together with a business mentor for entrepreneurs across England and Northern Ireland. The Start Up Loans Company was created within The Department for Business, Innovation and Skills, which is headed up by The Secretary of State. It was designed to go some way to help solve the problem of supporting young people who have a feasible business idea but no access to finance.

Appropriate for:

Anybody living in England, Wales, Scotland or Northern Ireland and at least 18 years of age at the time of application can apply for a Start Up Loan. You may have already started your business, but you must not have been trading for longer than a period of 12 months.

The Start Up Loans Company operates through a network of Delivery Partners across the country, who support entrepreneurs in all industries and sectors. It also receives support from Corporate Partners, who offer business benefits to young entrepreneurs.
