Identification Documents

You will need to provide the original version of one of the following documents:

  • Current signed passport
  • EU national ID card
  • Current full UK photocard driving licence
  • Current full UK driving licence (old paper style version)
  • Student identification / matriculation card (from a recognised university or college) - must be valid for the current academic year
  • Benefits book or original notification letter from the Benefits Agency (including Dept. of Work and Pensions) and/or Job Centre Plus confirming the right to benefit
  • OAP travel pass
  • Original HM Revenue & Customs issued tax notification and correspondence
  • Identity card issued by the electoral office for Northern Ireland
  • Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) letter regarding a National Insurance number
Are you aged 20 years or under?

The minimum age to open a business account is 18. If you’re aged 20 years or under, an original version of one of the following is also acceptable to confirm your identity:

• NHS medical card
• Birth certificate

Address Verification Documents

You will need to provide the original version of one of the following documents:

• Current signed passport
• Council tax bill or payment book (from the past 12 months)
• Utility bill – from the past six months (mobile phone bills, internet access bills are not acceptable)
• Current full UK photocard driving licence
• Current full UK driving licence (old style paper licence)
• Bank/building society/credit card statement (from the past six months)
• Original mortgage statement (no more than 12 months old)
• Benefits book or original notification letter from the Benefits Agency (including Dept. of Work and Pensions) and/or Job Centre Plus confirming the right to benefits at present
• Current home or motor insurance certificate (issued within the last 12 months, can only be used by policy holder)
• Current local council rent card or tenancy agreement (private tenancy agreements are not acceptable)
• Original HM Revenue & Customs issued tax notification and correspondence
•Solicitor's letter confirming recent house purchase or land registry confirmation 

Are you a student?

If you are a student, the original version of one of the following is also acceptable to confirm your address:

• University / College letter of acceptance / enrolment offer
• Student Loan Company / LEA / SAAS award letter
• UCAS Letter
• Introduction from a recognised UK college / university 

Are you aged 20 years or under?

If you are aged 20 years or under, the original version of your UK provisional photocard driving licence is also acceptable to confirm your address. 

Are you an existing customer?

If you are an existing NatWest customer, an original version of one of the following is also acceptable to confirm your address:

• Recent NatWest bank statement
• Sight of cheque/cheque card which has been sent to your current address, issued within the past six months
If you can’t meet these requirements, please speak to your Business Manager or Relationship Manager who will help you further. 

Additional documentation

Certain types of business have additional documentation requirements. The partial list below outlines some of these.

Partnerships - partnership agreement or contract of co-partner
Limited companies and limited liability partnerships - Certificate of incorporation
Clubs, societies, associations, churches or charities – a copy of the organisation's constitution
Trusts - the trust deed
New businesses and start-ups – your business plan and cash flow forecast
Established businesses - two years worth of audited accounts
Non NatWest customers - six months worth of business bank statements
